“The Hot Mom To Be Handbook - Look and Feel Great from Bump to Baby” book launch NYC
April 28th, 2010
Last night I was invited to the book launch of Jessica Denay’s “The Hot Mom to Be Handbook” at the Paul LaBreque Salon and SPA in New York City. Being at an event where alcohol was not served and the majority of the 300 people in attendance all had protruding tummies was a whole new world for me. First of all I went all by myself, and it was tough to walk into a room without the aid of a cocktail to break the ice. However instead, there were cupcakes and complimentary massages, blow drys, manis and panis!
I met a New Yorker named Tatiana who is a writer and currently writing her third book while drawing close to the birth of her third child - what an insight into the world of being a mother she was. I loved her, I could have talked to her all day.
Tatiana told me how she double pumps her breasts at one time to get the most milk and to make haste. Can you imagine the visual on this?
When she was pregnant with her first child she initially thought that if she drank alcohol it stayed in her breasts until she pumped it out. Meaning, that she did one session of pumping to rid herself of the remnants of the wine the night before out of her boobs — waited awhile — and then started all over again so her baby could feast on clean milk, while not getting tipsy at the same time.
Her husband will not let her consume artificial sweetener while she is expecting, but as she has such cravings she has a secret stash of icy poles that she has in a white plastic bag hidden at the back of her freezer where her husband will not notice. In the middle of the night, while he is positively sleeping, she gets up and eats them furiously so he will be none the wiser. Apparently expectant fathers become just as bizarre as expectant mothers.
Another eye opener for me, a maternity fashion show featuring very pregnant models including super model Teresa Lourenco, the girls all looked like that their water was about to break at any moment. It was a beauty that I have never really been exposed to before, girls really do glow when they are pregnant!
Not to mention the Goodie bags were amazing, from Trumpette baby socks, baby blankets from Swaddle Designs and really cute baby shoes by Stride Rite.
I am stoked that I was invited by the modeling agency I am currently signed with, and more so that I actually went to the event! I am looking forward to sitting down to read my signed copy of “The Hot Mom To Be Handbook - Look and Feel Great from Bump to Baby”.
Like I said, it’s a whole new world!
