The Big Everything in the Land Downunder Mate!!!
January 14th, 2008
Today let’s pop over to Australia seeings I am an Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi.
The land down under has a strange vibe of making everything BIGBALLS, meaning creating Big Sculptures in the middle of everywhere, we have close to 150 such sculptures ranging from The Big Wine Bottle (of course), The Big Wine Cask (of course again), The Big Rum Bottle (surprising), Many Big Beer Cans (surprising again), The Big Ant, The Big Worm, The Big Mushroom, The Big Joint (yes you read correctly), The Big Oyster, The BIg Windmill, The Big Prawn, The Big Cherries, The Big Trout Fish, The Big Wheelbarrow, The Big Scotsmen, The Big Matchstick, The Big Axe, The Big Mosquito, The Big Apple, The Big Cheese, The Big Paper Clip, The Big Mango, The Big Pineapple…. and the list goes on and on and on.
Everywhere you go around Australia, in both large and small towns, you are going to run into a peculiar Aussie tourist attraction: big things.
By this I mean: big, even HUGEballs, statues, of:
* the locally grown fruit;
* the locally grown vegetables;
* the local animals;
* the local manufactures;
* local historical characters;
* local everyday objects.
The trend first started in 1964 in Coffs Harbour in the state of New South Wales with the creation of The Big Banana. The BIGball sculptures were designed to draw tourists to various spots, it is also a great excuse for family road trips.
If you plan a trip to Australia make sure you check out some of our BIG THINGS.
Here are a few visuals of some of the weirder random BIGNESS you will find in My Lucky Country if you look.
The Giant Rocking Horse is a towering 18 Metres high in Gumeracha in South Australia, this big guy lives out the front of a toy factory.

The Giant Cow is 6 Metres by 10 Metres high, he grazes in the town of Nambour in the Sunshine State of Queensland out the front of an Outdoor Furniture and Leisure Center.

The Big Banana is 11 Metres Across by 5 Metres high, he is located in New South Wales town of Coffs Harbour and is situated out the front of a gift shop.

The Big Avocado grows in the New South Wales town of Durandah, at the Tropical Fruit World.

The Big Golden Guitar plays in Tamworth, New South Wales out the front of the famous Longyard Hotel. He is over 12 Metres High.

The Big Meat Pie is located in township of Yatala in Queensland.

The Big Boxing Crocodile is located up north in the Northern Territory, he stands 10 Metres high and is located out the front of a random petrol station (gas stop) in the tiny Town Of Humpty Doo. You wouldn’t want to meet this guy in a dark alley.

The Big Merino Sheep is a sheep who is drought tolerant. He is 15 Metres tall, and is definitely one of the most famous bigball things in Australia. He is located on the Hume Highway in Goulbourn - New South Wales.

The Giant Dog on the Tucker Box (Australian for lunch box) can be found in Gundagi - New South Wales. This particular dog is in a very famous town for Australians, because of a song that goes like this “there’s a track winding back to an old Australian shack in the town of Gundagi”

The Giant Lobster lives in the town of Kingston in the State of South Australia. The Giant Lobster is 17 Metres by 15 Metres across - WowzerBalls!

The Giant Redback Spider on a Dunny (Australian for Toilet) is located in Eight Mile Plains in Queensland.

The Mallee Big BullBalls is located in Swan Hill, Victoria.

And how can I not show one of the many many BIG alcohol related structures - the 4XXXX BeerBall Can. I do not know where this particular PUB is located that this particular tinny (Australian for can of beer) sits out the front of as there are many tinnies located around the sunburnt country… but I am sure many Australians would like a can of beer this big in their backyard.

I grew up a very small country town in the middle of nowhere and when I was 16 I worked at a wildlife reserve in the next town down (Tynong) - Victoria. The name of the wildlife reserve is Gumbuya Park and out the front there is a giant pheasant. Just looking at this Big Guy brings back memories and makes me home sick, every time I go home to the tiny town which I call HOME I drive right past this big bird. I love Australia.

IS THIS FUNKY SEXY OR COOL?
